Local PowerPoint, PDF and Word Publishing Fails in uPerform 5 When Installed on Windows 8


When publishing a document to the PowerPoint, PDF or Word output type in the uPerform client using uPerform 5 installed on Windows 8, the PowerPoint output fails and the following error message displays: "An error occurred when publishing the file."


This failure occurs because J# is required to publish output types, and J# requires .NET 3.5, which is not automatically installed on Windows 8.  Therefore, J# is never installed during the regular uPerform client installation.


.NET 3.5 must be installed manually prior to installed uPerform 5 in Windows 8.  Administrator rights will be required to perform the following steps.  Contact your IT department if necessary for assistance.

  1. If already installed, uninstall ANCILE uPerform 5 via the Control Panel.

  2. Install .NET 3.5 by selecting Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On or Off.

    Note: If the .NET 3.5 installation fails, check with your IT department to find out if your computer is on a domain with Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).  If so, you will need to disconnect from this domain, while remaining connected to the Internet during the installation.  Ask your IT department for assistance with this if necessary.

  3. Install uPerform 5 client.  This should automatically install J# which is required to publish PowerPoint, PDF, and Word files.
