ANCILE uPerform Templates Part 1: Publications and Formats

Description

Templates are all about managing your uPerform publications, so this is where our template series will begin. In this course, ANCILE’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will explain what each of the available publications and formats are, and why you may or may not want to use them. You will also learn how to control which publications and formats are available to your end-users, how to customize the names of your publications, and how to change the order in which your end-users see the available publications on the uPerform Server.

Hello - You mentioned using the test script documents with HP quality center. How does that work?

    Hi Sue,
Thank you for the question about HP Quality Center! We did a webinar on HP Quality Center that would provide you with the benefits of using uPerform Test Scripts in conjunction with HP Quality Center, and how to create uPerform Test Scripts and export them to Quality Center.
For your convenience, we have attached the link to this webinar below:

Can you change any of the headings for the sections in the document?

    Hi Tammy,
You can change any of the default text, including the heading names, in the Phrases tab of the template. We'll be covering that in more detail in an upcoming course on Phrases and Languages. You can customize sections in other ways as well, and we will be covering that in other upcoming courses. In the meantime you might want to check out the Using Author Templates chapter of the Managing Content with ANCILE uPerform manual. You can find the manual for your current version here:https://support.ancile.com/hc/en-us/categories/200095634

I understand you can have custom settings for a publication type, e.g. different colors and branding for the course publication. When you publish the course locally you can decide which color/branding to publish. Is there any way to control this when you are publishing on the server? (without removing the unwanted published content in the ucontent folder)
    Thanks,
    Sarah

Hi Sarah - Are you talking about when you create a custom course publication type in the template?

    Hi Chandra - Yes.

There are two different ways to create a custom publication type. One would be to de-select "Use default publication settings" under Publications > Manage All Publications > Course. That would create a Custom Settings link directly under the Course link. The other way would be to create a duplicate of the Course publication on the Manage All Publications screen.

In the former situation, the best way to do that would be to check out the template, check or uncheck "Use default publication settings," check the template back into the server, and then publish the course.

In the latter situation, you would need to check out the template, select the type you want and de-select the type you don't want on the Manage All Publications screen, check the template back into the server, and then publish the course.

The easiest way to manage two different course styles/skins on the server would be to use two separate templates though. Creating a custom publication by duplicating an existing one and modifying it can be handy when you want both the original and the new one to display on the server.

    I hope that helps!
